In addition to the above events, I also meet frequently with my tenured mentors for guidance and support.
Some of the most effective tasks that I engage in during Professional Time, is completing DSPS Intake files and participating in Success Coach tasks. As a Success Coach, I am part of team of faculty that will bring institutional data-based awareness and solutions to the challenges that impact Black student success online. I graduated from college 12 years ago and sadly not much has changed, Black students are still struggling. Especially after the pandemic, the achievement gap appears to be widening for Black students compared to other ethnic groups. As a counselor, I have the privilege of meeting with Black students frequently and they are very clear about what they need to be successful. The CRPP initiative can have a profoundly positive impact on the success rates of Black students online and empower faculty to make it happen. I truly believe that many faculty members want to be a part of a cultural shift but lack the insight and tools to implement new strategies.
